The United Kingdom has raised the visa fee for visitors; the new rule will take effect on October 4.

In a recent update, the British government announced that a visa increase will take effect on October 4. According to the new fee structure, a visit visa for a stay of less than six months will cost GBP 15 (INR 1544), while student visas will cost GBP 127 (INR 13,080) more for travellers worldwide, including India.
The UK Home Office confirmed the news of these changes on Friday by passing legislation in Parliament. The cost of a visit visa for less than six months will rise to GBP 115 as a result (INR 11,845).

In July, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced an increase in visa fees and health surcharges. He stated that they will raise the fees that they charge migrants coming to the UK when they apply for visas, as well as the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
All fees will be raised, raising more than GBP 1 billion. The Home Office has announced a 15% increase in the cost of most work and visit visas, as well as a 20% increase in the cost of priority visas, study visas, and sponsorship certificates.

“Income from fees charged plays a vital role in the Home Office’s ability to run a sustainable immigration and nationality system,” the Home Office stated this week. When setting fees, care is taken to reduce the funding contribution from British taxpayers while continuing to provide a service that is appealing to those wishing to work in the UK and support broader prosperity for all.”
The fee increase applies to the majority of visa categories. It covers health and care visas, applications to register and naturalise as a British citizen, visa fees (up to six months, two, five, and ten years), and entry clearance fees.

Canada May Re-Evaluate Immigration Targets- Housing Minister Sean Fraser

Canada Housing Minister and former Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has indirectly pointed that the federal government may consider changes immigration levels targets.

“When we look to the future of immigration levels planning, we want to maintain ambition and immigration, but we want to better align our immigration policies with the absorptive capacity of communities that includes housing, that includes health care, that includes infrastructure,” Sean Fraser told Vassy Kapelos in an interview on CTV’s Questions.

Fraser also mentioned how the federal government has “some work to do” with its temporary immigration programs, which operate in an “uncapped way” based on demand.

Obviously this doesn’t mean This does not mean the number of newcomers need to be necessarily reduced however the federal government needs to give careful consideration to the immigration targets in consultation with other levels of governments and institutions that have “a duty to play part of a role in housing the people who come here.”

On Oct 10 IRCC will send 15,000 invitations to apply for parents sponsorship applications from the 2020 pool of submissions.

Due to the number of forms remaining in the pool of submissions from 2020, IRCC will send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of opening a new interest to sponsor form. This is the same approach taken for the 2021 and 2022 intakes. Anyone who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020, but did not receive an invitation to apply in 2021 or 2022, is encouraged to check the email account they provided in 2020 when they submitted their interest to sponsor form.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to reunite families by accepting up to 15,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the Parents and Grandparents Program this year. On October 10, 2023, IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors, aiming to receive up to 15,000 complete applications. Invitations will be sent over the course of 2 weeks.
